OUR STORY.

OUR MISSION BECAME CLEAR…

In the summer of 2018 I was in the throws of continuing to scale Tailgate Guys and PRE Event Resources across the country. I picked up my fraternity alumni magazine and noticed an article about fraternities across the country having to move their events and operations off campus. Being in the operations mindset and having been massively shaped by my fraternity experience while a student at Auburn University, I immediately thought, “this can’t happen, the Greek life experience has to stay intact.” Thus the initial idea was born… a management tool to help fraternities reduce risk in their operations while also modernizing their systems.

Coming from a small town in rural West Georgia and attending a public, county school, my high school was far from a pipeline to large universities like Auburn. By essentially going alone to Auburn, my fraternity became my family. To this day there are a handful of my pledge brothers that I speak with regularly, one or two on a multiple times a day basis. With the foundation of these life changing relationships stemming from my fraternity background, the motivation for Chptr is simple, to ensure young greek life members have the same opportunities I had…or better.

In the summer of 2019, we began an acquisition process to exit Tailgate Guys and PRE Event Resources, so the concept for Chptr took a backseat. Both companies were successfully sold just before the pandemic to a Private Equity buyer that has since done an excellent job continuing the pattern of growth we had established. After a long and very taxing process of selling the companies, I took around a year off to spend with my young and growing family - my wife Melanie (who I met in college) and my now two little girls: Elizabeth James (6), Margaret Charles (3). It was a fantastic year and I never thought I would get back into the business building line of work. God had other plans!

By Spring of 2022 the idea of Chptr kept popping up in my head and I couldn't shake it. The need and opportunity was too great to sit idle. I immediately looped in several members of the leadership team I worked alongside at Tailgate Guys. They loved the idea, and our core founding team was formed. As we began to have conversations with student leaders, campus leaders, and commercial partners in the Greek system, we found that we had underestimated the need. For the next year, the groundwork began to be laid for the team, the service, and the technology necessary to support this gaping hole in Greek Life. Our mission became clear: Elevating the Greek Life Experience and Empowering Young Leaders.

After years of intense planning and building, Chptr was officially launched in February of 2023 with a goal of staying focused on working for the chapters, aggressively pursuing feedback, and elevating Greek Life from every angle. We are making a market just like we did at Tailgate Guys, and we expect to leave a strong positive impact on the Greek community just like we did in the college sports space with Tailgate Guys. This is only just the beginning.

See you out there.
